Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger for recording transactions and storing them. As the industry transforms to cloud native applications and these application are more transactional in nature, blockchain establishes trust, accountability and transparency.

There are several drivers for “Why blockchain?” that evolved around proactively sensing breaches and preventing them before they happen. Practically speaking, this involves device security practices around monitoring, policy, and device integrity. Additionally, controls around multi-factor authentication and secure key distribution and key management are necessary as well.

Security Everywhere

Over the last year as Internet of Things (IoT) has exploded, I’ve been architecting and developing around a concept to secure IoT that I’m calling Security of Things (SoT). One interesting aspect of this is the Blockchain of Secure Things.

Blockchain of Secure things consists of security by trust and identity leveraging integrity monitoring and verification based on hyperledger. As well as a framework for plugin technologies and architecture for gateway/fog security layers.

Cisco is a long time member of The Linux Foundation and highly vested in the open source community. Judy Priest judypriest attended the very first Hyperledger Project meeting, and she talked about the importance of creating an enterprise class solution based on blockchain that could span across multiple industries. Judy talked about the different use cases across supply chain, Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, identity, and tracking and trading of digital and physical assets. These are all areas where Cisco is driving our digitization strategy, and markets that are important to our customers, partners, and suppliers. The dots were starting to connect on the revolutionary and truly disruptive potential of blockchain to transform businesses.

judypriest is part of our Advisory Board for DevNet Create, where we would love to highlight your experiences with blockchain technologies and/or hyperledger. We would like to publish your story on this #DevNetCreate blog and support you submitting to the Call For Papers (CFP) for #DevNetCreate conference.

Join us in San Francisco for the inaugural #DevNetCreate conference. Become a Speaker! papercall.io/devnetcreate2017
